MLS Futures

MLS futures betting means that it’s time to break out your crystal soccer ball and predict things to come before they happen. More often than not, the earlier you make your picks, the better price you will have attached to the action, but futures wagering is still all about timing, skill, and finding advantageous MLS betting odds to help you accomplish that.

MLS Futures Betting Tips

Before the Major League Soccer regular season and playoffs arrive, MLS Cup betting odds come out pertaining to who will win each conference and who will win the MLS Cup. As the month of March rolls around, a new regular season gets started and the MLS soccer betting line setters will already have offers towards the new campaign. The MLS futures odds come out in February before the new season starts, and the oddsmakers will offer the list of who will win the MLS Cup, as well as who will win the Eastern and Western Conference titles.

It doesn’t stop there, however, as player props and odds on who will be the top-scorer (Golden Boot) are among some of the commonly placed MLS futures bets made every year. As each MLS season ends, the oddsmakers already start gathering information as to who will be favored to win the next season’s MLS Cup and their respective conferences.

Naturally, a new season means changes for nearly every team in MLS, but the oddsmakers usually go by the standings from the previous season to weigh their prospects for the upcoming MLS betting year. Managerial changes, player changes, and the constant addition of new clubs to the league impacts everything as well. One set of lines will be offered before the season begins, and as bets are made the lines can fluctuate at any time, some changes more drastic than others.

What Impacts MLS Futures Odds

For example, at the beginning of a new season, we might see a team to be favored to win the MLS Cup at +300. If that club gets off to either a great or poor start, the oddsmakers will adjust their MLS betting lines accordingly. That +300 can turn into +500 with a rough start, or it could fall to +200 with a hot start within just a month’s time.

Something extreme such as a significant injury to a key player for an extended time can certainly impact the lines, and it can also make MLS futures betting that much more difficult. How often do you have a great MLS futures bet on a team, and it jumps out to a fantastic start only to lose players and watch it all fall apart?

That’s the risk / reward factor that one must weigh towards making big bets on futures betting, similarly to what fantasy sports requires.

Betting on MLS Cup Futures

The fact that there have only been three teams to repeat as champions in the first 27 MLS seasons should be factored in to your decision making process, and in today’s game there are multiple exterior competitions going on as well. Champions League, U.S Open Cup, Canadian Cup, and club friendlies run concurrent with the MLS season, so looking ahead to see how much soccer a team has ahead of them is important, too.

You can bet on who will win the MLS Cup all throughout the regular season, and the value is almost always there no matter what point of the year it is.

To use the first month of 2019 as an example, LAFC has opened the year with five wins and a draw. When the season started, LAFC was +800 to win the MLS Cup and a month later it was +500. While there is still value there, making that call on LAFC before the season started would have brought you $800 on your $100, instead of what is now a $500 return.

Finding the right sportsbook is also something to have in mind, because catching a good line at one site might not be what you see at another book. You can save yourself money by having funds at multiple sites for that exact reason, so get out there and make sure you have options.
