Tip 1 - 2:05 Newmarket - So Logical

There looks to be plenty of pace in this race, and we think there could be some value to be had on a horse on handicap debut, who’s rating could well be on the rise in a big way soon. So Logical shaped nicely on two starts as a two-year-old over course and distance last year and finally appeared to make good on some promise at the fourth time of asking when winning by seven-and-a-half lengths on the all-weather at Newcastle last month. Dashing Darcey looks a danger after he stayed on nicely at Chester for third in a higher class race last time out, but preference goes to bottom weight here who is bred from a 2000 Guineas winner.

Tip 2 - 2:25 Newbury - James's Delight

After winning a handicap off a mark of 97 in fine style where he looked the winner a long way out, James’s Delight is trying to follow up in a winnable stakes race. Six furlongs on good ground really brought the best out of him, and despite it being in a handicap, that is probably the best piece of form on offer in this field. A repeat of that run will see him pick up the win here.

Tip 3 - 3:00 Newbury - Chantilly

It often pays to try to find the group horse in a handicap for races like this. One that jumps off the page is Aidan O’Brien’s Chantilly. He was a comfortable winner of a Leopardstown handicap in April and now finds himself rated 95. He’s got entries in the Irish Derby and the Eclipse over the summer, and he may well be up to that sort of level. Newbury should suit this Galileo colt, who should be able to race prominently and power away late, before setting his sights on bigger targets later in the season.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
