In four of the last five seasons, the San Francisco 49ers have advanced to four NFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls. But that final step – securing a Lombardi Trophy – has eluded the franchise for 30 years.

There isn’t much to fix, however. The team ranked No. 3 in the NFL in 2023 in both points scored and points allowed. The Niners are due for another run in 2024, and can bolster the roster at the 2024 NFL Draft.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures odds on who gets selected 31st by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Best 2024 NFL Draft 49ers Prospects

The defense was more of an issue than offense for the ’23 Niners. The passing game ranked a modest 14th in yards allowed, and the run game was gashed for 130+ yards in all three postseason games.

The Niners revamped the D-line, adding DTs Jordan Elliott and Maliek Collins, and edge rusher Leonard Floyd (10.5 sacks for the Bills) to take pressure off Nick Bosa.

Cornerback remains a spot to key on, but the focus mostly turns to the offense for the draft, starting and ending with the O-line. There are no pressing needs at any skill position.

The good news for the Niners is that linemen that might usually go in the Top 20, could still be available at the end of the first round, because of the strong desire and need to improve at quarterback and receiver for other teams.

Tackles such as Tyler Guyton of Oklahoma and Jordan Morgan of Arizona, or guards including Cooper Beebe of Kansas State and Christian Haynes of UConn, could be around at No. 31.

Guard is the area of most concern. Only one starter ranked inside the Top 60 in Pro Football Focus’ ranking of guard play last season. The Niners had issues running inside down the stretch, and the position doesn’t have much depth, either.

Graham Barton, a center from Duke, is projected to go anywhere from 15th to early second round. The Niners could use an upgrade there, too.

The Niners could use an upgrade at CB to play across from second-team All-Pro Charvarius Ward. Cooper DeJean of Iowa has a 50/50 chance of being available here. If he is, the Niners could eschew O-line help in Round 1 and take a strong look in that direction. Ennis Rakestraw of Missouri is next on the list.
